Commack, NY—Tamron introduced the Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD (model B060) for Fujifilm X-mount, APS-C mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras. Moreover, Tamron will release the fast-aperture, ultrawide-angle zoom lens on May 30, 2023.

For everyday use, the lens’s 20mm focal length (a full-frame equivalent of 30mm) is well suited for casual snapshot photography, such as street shooting. The compact lens is also an option for travel, landscape and general photography.

“With its usefulness rooted in its compact, lightweight design and fast f/2.8 aperture, the 11–20mm f/2.8 provides an exciting shooting experience with greater freedom in diverse shooting situations,” the company announced.

“You can enjoy the unique and powerful world of ultrawide-angle photography at the 11mm end (a full-frame equivalent of 16.5mm).”

Tamron 11-20mm F2.8 Di III-A RXD Specs

The 16.5–30mm-equivalent, ultrawide-angle zoom features a constant aperture of f/2.8. Yet, the lens is small and feels balanced when attached to a compact APS-C-format mirrorless camera. At 3.4 inches in length, it weighs in at 11.8 ounces. Its portable form provides a comfortable experience for still photography as well as for shooting video using a small tripod or gimbal stabilizer.

Furthermore, at the 11mm ultrawide-angle end, the lens allows for enhanced close-range shooting. It has an MOD (minimum object distance) of 5.9 inches and a 1:4 maximum magnification ratio at the wide end. At the 20mm end, its MOD is just 9.4 inches. Consequently, the lens enables creative wide-angle macro shooting that exploits the unique perspective of ultrawide-angle lenses. It also leverages the expressive bokeh provided by its fast, max aperture and 7-blade circular diaphragm.

Additionally, its quiet RXD (rapid eXtra-silent stepping drive) stepping motor AF drive is a tool for both stills and video. The RXD stepping motor enables very fast and accurate autofocus. It also allows users to maintain tack-sharp focus on continuously moving subjects. Further, thanks to quiet AF, the lens is unobtrusive for indoor shooting, video content creation and other situations that require low noise levels.

What’s more. the lens is constructed with 12 elements in 10 groups. Two well-located GM (glass molded) aspherical lens elements assure high resolution across the image, from edge to edge. In addition, the lens incorporates one XLD (eXtra low dispersion) and two LD elements to produce sharp images with corrected optical aberrations. Tamron also applied its BBAR-G2 (broad-band antireflection generation 2) coating to suppress ghosting and flare. It also allows the lens to reveal the minute details of objects, even when the subject is backlit.

The Build

In addition, moisture-resistant construction and fluorine coating provide extra protection when shooting outdoors.

Seals are located at the lens mount area and other critical locations to deter the infiltration of moisture and/or rain drops. The front surface of the lens element is coated with a protective fluorine compound that has water- as well as oil-repellent qualities.

The Tamron 11–20mm f/2.8 Di III-A RXD will have a suggested retail price of $829.
