Commack, NY—Tamron is developing a secondgeneration fast-aperture standard zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras. The Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Di III VXD G2 (model A063) will launch in 2021.

The 2875mm f/2.8 G2 is the successor to the popular 2875mm f/2.8 Di III RXD (model A036). “It reflects the fruits of continuous evolution and customer-focused refinement,” the company announced.

Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Di III VXD G2 Features

Retaining the compact size of its predecessor, the 2875mm f/2.8 G2 lens incorporates a new optical construction that was revamped to enhance imaging performance. It also has a 67mm filter size. Moreover, its features are compatible with the latest digital cameras that achieve increased resolution.

In addition, the new lens adopts Tamron’s quiet VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque drive) linear motor focus mechanism; the drive delivers higher autofocus speed with greater precision.

The lens also boasts a MOD (minimum object distance) of 7.1 inches at the wide end and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.7. Consequently, it will offer advanced close-up shooting performance.

Its new design also provides enhanced operability and an ergonomic texture. “Tamron pioneered the category of compact fast-aperture standard zoom lenses for mirrorless cameras and the new 2875mm f/2.8 G2 truly is a next-generation lens for everyday use,” the company added.

Tamron Lens Utility Software

Furthermore, the lens is compatible with the new Tamron Lens Utility software originally developed by Tamron. Photographers can operate the software on a computer by connecting the lens from its connector port via the optional Tamron connection cable. (This USB Type-A to Type-C cable is sold separately.) Once users connect the lens, they can customize its functions and update the firmware through the lens rather than the camera. The personal customization also gives flexible shooting options to match shooting situations, such as still photography or videography.

The functions of Tamron Lens Utility include A-B Focus; photographers can set two focus positions (A and B) and make the focus automatically shift between A and B. It also provides a focus preset function to set the desired focus position and move the focus to the recorded point by a click.

Also, the switch focus ring function (focus/aperture) enables users to make focus adjustments and aperture adjustments. They can also assign custom functions from the camera body to the focus set button.

Moreover, focus ring settings include MF ring rotation to change the rotation direction of the focus ring; and MF method, to choose the method of focus operation when using the focus ring.
