Commack, NY—Tamron announced the price and sale date for the Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8 Di III VXD (model A058) lens in the Nikon Z mount. The fast-aperture telephoto zoom lens will reach retail on September 21, 2023. It will have a suggested retail price of $1,999.
What’s more, the 35–150mm f/2–2.8 lens covers a wide-angle through telephoto range, making it an option for both travel and portrait photography. For instance, you can shoot large buildings at 35mm as well as dynamic close-up shots at 150mm. Tamron says it is also the first zoom lens for Nikon Z-mount cameras to have a maximum wide-open aperture of f/2 (as of July 2023). 
Additionally, incorporating Tamron’s VXD (voice-coil eXtreme-torque drive) linear motor focus mechanism, the lens can achieve high-speed and high-precision autofocus for a fast-aperture lens. The new lens features a fast maximum aperture of f/2 at the 35mm focal length, compared to the typical f/2.8 fast-aperture zoom lenses. As a result, the lens can create enhanced bokeh—even on the wide-angle end of its focal range. The f/2 aperture also allows use of higher shutter speeds and lower ISO settings. Thus, it reduces camera shake effects and image noise.
Furthermore, because of the all-in-one lens’s zoom range, you can make use of the 35mm and 50mm focal lengths for landscape and street photography; change to an 85mm semi-telephoto angle of view for people and detail shots; and focus on a faraway subject at 150mm. Tamron also notes that its “responsive zoom ring enables you to continue shooting as you shift from wide to telephoto seamlessly and smoothly without changing lenses—which is convenient for video as well as still photography.”
The lens also employs Tamron’s latest optical design. Its 21-element, 15-group formula uses four LD (low dispersion) and three GM (glass molded aspherical) lens elements for optical performance throughout its zoom range. In addition, it is optimized for use on today’s extra-high-resolution digital cameras, to achieve sharpness to the edges of the frame while crafting soft bokeh.
The lens’s AF drive, with a VXD linear motor focus mechanism, also permits focus tracking of moving objects. Additionally, the focus motor is quiet, so it is also a solution for shooting both still images and video in situations that demand low noise. Furthermore, at the 35mm wide-angle end, its minimum focusing distance is 13 inches, with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.7 (33.5 inches at the tele end, 1:5.9).

What’s more, the new lens is compatible with the dedicated Tamron Lens Utility software. The software allows you to update the lens to the latest firmware without going through the camera. It also includes functions to support focusing operations and other actions when shooting still images or video. By utilizing a range of functions, you can expand your creative expression. For example, A-B focus allows you to limit focusing to two preset focus points, shifting focus from one subject to another with a click of the focus set button. You can also choose between linear and nonlinear, which affects how the focus shifts during manual focusing.
Other features include 9 circular diaphragm blades; moisture-resistant construction; a fluorine coating; an 82mm filter size; and a hood-locking mechanism. The lens weighs in at 2.6 pounds. SRP: $1,999.
