Melville, NY—Canon USA launched the full-frame Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera. The hybrid interchangeable-lens camera is the first EOS R series full-frame mirrorless camera to take the step into the second generation.

In addition, Canon also introduced the RF135mm f/1.8 L IS USM mid-telephoto portrait lens and the Speedlite EL-5 flash unit.

For advanced amateurs and featuring user-friendly functions such as automatic settings, the EOS R6 Mark II is a hybrid ILC. It captures moments in both photo and video formats. It will satisfy a range of needs, including professional production, vlogging, still pictures as well as filmmaking. Moreover, the camera is well-suited for various photography subjects, such as portrait, landscape, sports and wildlife.

To meet those needs, the EOS R6 Mark II offers enhanced video and photo functions, such as in-body image stabilization, as well as controlled focusing during video recording.

“As a filmmaker who is always on the move, I need a camera I can trust in a multitude of environments as well as keeping up with my fast-paced style of shooting. The new Canon EOS R6 Mark II does just that,” said Canon Co-Lab creator Sam Newton.

Canon EOS R6 Mark II Specs

Notably, the EOS R6 Mark II employs a Canon-developed, 24.2-megapixel, full-frame image sensor. The sensor pairs with a Digic X image processor with an ISO range of 100–102,400. Consequently, the camera is a solution for low-light scenarios.

It is also capable of 4K 59.94p video recording and external 6K RAW video recording /internal 4K video recording oversampled from 6K. Furthermore, the camera features Canon Log 3 to maximize its dynamic range. It also provides continuous movie recording that exceeds 30 minutes.

Other advanced video features include HDR PQ as well as in-camera Full-HD proxy recording. It also provides focus breathing correction (with compatible Canon RF lenses) that automatically compensates for changes in the angle of view caused by focus operations during movie recording. Further, it is capable of simultaneous recording of movies and stills to dual UHS-II SD card slots.

The ILC also features a autofocus system that accurately detects subjects such as human, animals and vehicles. Horses, trains as well as airplanes are newly detectable through deep learning technology.

In addition, its in-body image stabilization system achieves up to 8 stops of shake correction with coordinated-control IS. This complements the camera’s high-speed burst shooting.

The EOS R6 Mark II achieves bursts of up to 12 frames per second using its mechanical shutter. Moreover, with its electronic shutter, that increases to 40 fps. What’s more, it is the first full-frame Canon EOS camera to use RAW burst mode to shoot at 30 fps. By turning on RAW burst mode’s pre-shooting, shooting starts slightly before (about 0.5 sec earlier) the shutter button is fully pressed. Coupled with its high-speed continuous shooting, the camera captures the split-second details between a subject’s movements.

Other Features

The camera has a 3-inch, 1.62-million-dot Clear View II vari-angle, touchscreen LCD. Consequently, it is easy to compose and shoot from any angle. It also provides a 0.5-inch OLED EVF (electronic viewfinder) with 3.7 million dots and a 23mm eyepoint to display a bright image and shooting information. The EVF also supports a 120-fps refresh rate. In addition, there’s an optical viewfinder (OVF) simulation setting. This provides a higher dynamic range viewfinder image for viewing in harsh, contrasty lighting.

Further, the camera supports both wired and wireless connections to a smartphone via its USB Type-C port. It also has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology. What’s more, the camera is UVC/UAC compatibility. This means the EOS R6 Mark II can act as a web camera and stream live video in Full HD, without additional computer software. It will stream to applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype as well as similar online meeting software.

The Canon EOS R6 Mark II camera body only and kits with either the Canon RF24–105 f/4 L IS USM or the RF24–105 f/4.0-7.1 IS STM USM lens were released in late November 2022. Suggested retail prices are $2,499, $3,599 and $2,799, respectively.
