San Diego, CA—The second-gen Sony ZV-E10 II APS-C interchangeable-lens camera launched in Sony’s ZV content creation camera series. Sony design the mirrorless series to provide easy, compact tools for content creators of any level. The new ZV-E10 II maintains its predecessor’s key features, such as creative looks, a product showcase setting, background defocus function and a vari-angle flip screen.

Additionally, Sony introduced the E PZ 16–50mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS II power zoom lens. The compact APS-C lens is available separately or as part of the ZV-E10 II’s kit.

“From the beginning, the goal of the Sony ZV line was to create cameras that produced high-quality results while being extremely easy to use. Today, the ZV line continues to uphold that standard, but we’re taking it a step further,” said Yang Cheng, vice president, Imaging Solutions, Sony Electronics Inc. “Our aim with the advancements of the ZV-E10 II is to inspire creators to develop or recreate their own unique style through features like personalized creative looks and cinematic vlog setting. We are continually evolving our technology to help creators of all skill levels bring their visions to life.”

The ZV-E10 II’s internal hardware was improved from its predecessor with an upgraded backside-illuminated, 26-megapixel Exmor R CMOS sensor and Sony’s latest Bioz XR image processor. Additional updates include improved autofocus and video capturing capabilities; the cinematic vlog setting; a new vertical format user interface (UI); and an upgraded large-capacity Sony Z battery.

Moreover, true to the ethos of the ZV series, the new camera was redesigned to streamline the content creation process further. The goal is to enable creators to focus less on camera settings and more on their art.

Furthermore, the ZV-E10 II features two key functions to produce premium content straight from the camera—creative looks and a cinematic vlog setting. When shooting stills or video, users can enhance their images by selecting any of the 10 creative look options: standard, portrait, neutral, vivid, vivid 2, film, instant, soft highkey, black & white and sepia. Each is customizable. You can edit them through eight parameters. Once customized, you can save six custom styles in-camera for reuse.

What’s more, the camera’s cinematic vlog setting automatically adjusts the aspect ratio, frame rate and AF transition speed for cinematic video capture. Additionally, you can enhance footage by selecting from five “looks,” such as S-Cinetone that enhances skin tones. You can also apply one of four “moods” that emphasize specific colors.

Other key specifications include a 759-point focal plane phase-detection AF (autofocus) system. It provides real-time eye AF for humans/animals/bird as well as real-time tracking. In addition, the new sensor achieves a combination of high sensitivity and low noise with an ISO range from 100 to 32,000. The camera also boasts high-speed readout. And 5.6K video oversampling compresses a vast amount of information into detailed 4K footage at up to 60p.

Moreover, active mode electronic image stabilization employs a gyroscope and advanced algorithm to compensate for camera shake, even when shooting 4K. Plus, the upgraded Z battery (NP-FZ100) permits continuous recording for up to 195 minutes per charge.

Improved Operability for Content Creation

Sony also integrated features to streamline content creation. The new vertical UI auto-rotates from horizontal to vertical orientation to streamline vertical content creation. When paired with the ILC’s vari-angle LCD monitor, you can create and view content from any angle. Further, the adopted product showcase setting delivers convenient shooting of product review videos with smooth focus transitions from your face to the highlighted item. Plus, a background defocus function adjusts the depth of field and creates bokeh within the background with a single touch.

Additional video features include 4K 60p capture and up to 120p capture in XAVC-S Full HD quality. And you can record motion sequences using the S&Q mode at 5x slow motion (24p playback). You can also create time-lapse sequences in-camera, setting the exposure interval from 1 to 60 seconds.

In addition, connectivity with the USB 3.2 Type-C (SuperSpeed USB 5 Gbps) port allows high-speed wired transfer to a smartphone or PC through the Creators App for postproduction and sharing on social media. Plus, you can livestream through the support of 5 GHz Wi-Fi connectivity.

Another content creation function is an onboard 3-capsule microphone with selectable directivity. You can select auto or choose from front, rear or all directions for the audio directivity. A windscreen is also supplied with the camera to reduce noise when shooting in windy conditions. What’s more a multi-interface shoe allows for connection to an external microphone for additional audio options, if needed.

Sony E PZ 16–50mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS II Lens

In addition to the ZV-E10 II ILC, Sony announced the upgraded lightweight E PZ 16–50mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS II kit lens. It offers improved AF and video performance compared to the first-generation model.

Its compact size and 24-75mm-equivalent focal range make it an optimal companion to the new camera. The lens uses four aspherical elements and one ED (extra-low dispersion) element in an effective optical design to combat various aberrations. The lens also has a minimum focusing distance of 9.8 inches (wide)/11.8 inches (tele) and a maximum magnification of 0.215x.

Plus, it retracts to a total length of 1.25 inches when the camera power is turned off. Its diminutive size and low weight of 3.8 ounces makes it a portable option for day-to-day shooting. Furthermore, its power zoom is a solution for movie shooting, and AF is available even while zooming.
