OmegaBrandess Buys Up Gigapan, Adds Epic Robotic Mounts to Lineup

Hampstead, MD—OmegaBrandess Distribution acquired the assets of the Gigapan hardware division of Gigapan Systems LLC, based in Portland, Oregon. Gigapan Systems manufactures Gigapan Epic robotic mounts, which empower cameras to take hundreds, even thousands, of photos that are combined to create one highly detailed image with depth and clarity.

OmegaBrandess is now in the process of transitioning the operation to their facility in Hampstead, Maryland, where they plan to be in full production as soon as possible. OmegaBrandess announced the new product line at PhotoPlus Expo, held at the Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The Gigapan Epic series of panoramic photography equipment is based on the same technology employed by the Mars rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, to capture the incredible images of the red planet. Now everyone has the opportunity to use technology developed for Mars to take their own incredible images.

Gigapan was formed in 2008 as the commercial spin-off of a successful research collaboration between a team of researchers at NASA and Carnegie Mellon University. The company’s mission has been to bring this powerful, high-resolution imaging capability to a broad audience.

Epic robotic camera mounts are designed to make it fun and easy to capture incredibly high-resolution images with almost any camera. Part of a fully integrated solution, the robotic camera mounts work seamlessly with Gigapan Stitch software.

The Gigapan Epic and Epic 100 are compatible with a range of point-and-shoot cameras and small DSLRs to capture Gigapans. Light and compact, they are said to be easy to use. The Epic Pro works with DSLRs and larger lenses and features advanced technology developed to deliver stunning performance and precision. Strong enough to hold a camera and lens combination of up to 10 pounds, the Epic Pro enables users to capture enormous panoramas with crisp detail.

OmegaBrandess will distribute the Gigapan Epic line for the following manufacturer’s suggested retail prices: Epic, $319; Epic 100, $479; and Epic Pro, $995.
