West Caldwell, NJ—Ricoh Imaging announced a new addition to its WG series of rugged, compact cameras—the WG-50. The Ricoh WG series is known for its tough design that can be used under harsh conditions to capture both still images and video. With the Ricoh WG-50, the company has achieved waterproof performance down to nearly 46 feet below the surface.

In addition, the WG-50 point-and-shoot camera is engineered to withstand a fall of 5 feet, features a freezeproof design to operate in temperatures as low as 14ºF and is crushproof against weights of 220 lbf (pound-force).

With a newly added outdoor view setting mode that instantly changes the brightness of the camera’s LCD, the WG-50 is more suitable to capture outdoor activities than previous WG models. Additionally, the 2.7-inch, 230K-dot LCD features AR (antireflective) coating.

The camera is equipped with a 28–140mm-equivalent, f/3.5–5.5 lens. The lens offers 5x optical zoom, which can be extended with the WG-50’s 7.2x intelligent digital zoom function.

Powered by a 1/2.3-inch, 16 megapixel CMOS sensor, the WG-50 offers ISO settings of 125–6,400, as well as multi-segment, center-weighted and spot metering. It’s capable of continuous shooting at 10 frames per second for 30 frames and can record Full HD (1,920×1,080) movies as well as 720p HD movies at up to 120 fps for slow motion video.

Its 9-point autofocus system includes spot AF and auto-tracking AF. The WG-50 also employs Pixel Track SR (shake-reduction) technology with a high-sensitivity, anti-shake mode to compact the effects of camera shake on still images and a movie SR mode for smooth video.
