Fairfax, VA—The Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) announced the agenda for its Hands-On Dye Sublimation: Basic to Advanced workshop, which will be held November 3-4, 2011 in SGIA’s state-of-the-art laboratory in Fairfax, Virginia.

The workshop is designed to open up a new world of revenue possibilities for print providers and help them fine-tune their printing skills. A mix of lecture and hands-on exercises, the workshop will cover the full spectrum of dye-sublimation technology.

Presenters will discuss the science behind the sublimation technology and how it works, current dye-sub systems, consumables and software components, as well as general and product-specific accessories needed for success. The day one lecture is an overview of the dye-sublimation process, materials and print technologies. It covers equipment, materials and substrates for screen-printing, inkjet, toner-based solutions and offset printing that can be used to print dye sublimation. Also featured are: small object printing, hands on in the lab area; a discussion of dye-sub troubleshooting and heat presses that can be used for the process; color management of the dye-sublimation process; cost comparison of technologies and marketing strategies; and a range of products that can be printed and coatings you can apply yourself.

The day two lecture is titled “Dye Sublimation Process for Apparel Printing,” and it will cover materials and methodologies for successful apparel production. Participants will have hands-on time in the lab for apparel printing and troubleshooting. Also included is a discussion on soft signage, equipment, inks and markets; color management and processing. There will also be hands-on time in the lab for soft signage production and processing.
