Teaneck, NJ—Leica Camera AG officially launched the Leica D-Lux 8, a new compact camera that aligns with the brand’s design philosophy. “The camera offers exceptional user comfort, not only in terms of its design but also in its operation. The intuitive controls, user interface and optimized button layout, along with its ergonomically arranged controls, ensure a user-friendly experience,” Leica announced.

With an integrated zoom lens, the premium compact offers the essential functions for photography and video. Its manual and fully automatic modes allow photographers to choose between taking quick snapshots and thoughtful compositions. Moreover, its 3-inch, 1.84M-dot TFT LCD touchscreen and new 2.4-megapixel OLED viewfinder with a live view function help frame shots.
Leica also engineered the camera to deliver even in challenging lighting conditions. That’s thanks to a 4/3″ CMOS image sensor with 21 megapixels (17 effective). Complementing it is the camera’s fast Leica DC Vario-Summilux 10.9–34 f/1.7–2.8 4 Asph zoom lens (24–75mm equivalent) as well as an attachable flash. Furthermore, the new Leica D-Lux 8 captures images in both DNG and JPEG formats.
Moreover, its optical zoom and 4K video recording capability make the Leica D-Lux 8 an all-purpose camera. Additionally, its compact and lightweight size make it a take-anywhere companion. The camera measures 4.7×2.7×2.4 inches and weighs 14 ounces with its battery.
The camera also offers 2.4 GHz Bluetooth 5.0. Consequently, it connects to the Leica FOTOS app so you can download, edit and share images directly to a smartphone. The app supports DNG files and video downloads as well as remote camera operation, including optical zoom. In addition, you can update the camera’s firmware with the Leica FOTOS app.
Accessories
Leica also announced matching accessories for its new compact. These include leather halfcases in black, cognac and olive versions. Matching carrying and wrist straps also come in black, cognac/petrol and olive/burgundy. Further, an equipment bag and hip bag come in black. Additional accessories include an auto lens cap and a new handgrip. 
The Leica D-Lux 8 is now available. It has a suggested retail price of $1,595.
