Olympus Stylus Tough TG-2: Waterproof to 50 Ft. with Microscopic Macro

Center Valley, PA—Olympus announced its new flagship Stylus Tough TG-2 iHS waterproof, shockproof, freezeproof, crushproof and dustproof compact with a high-speed, ultra-bright f/2.0 lens and converter-lens system, iHS technology and Full HD 1080p video capability in the most extreme conditions.

The camera allows underwater enthusiasts to explore depths of 50 feet, and its ruggedized construction is shockproof enough to withstand a 6.6-foot fall, freezeproof to 14° F and crushproof to 220 pounds.

The TG-2 combines a 12 megapixel backlit CMOS sensor with a DSLR-quality TruePic VI image processor to enable image quality in challenging conditions with less noise and improved response times.

A new microscopic macro function boosts zoom magnification from 4x–14x “with no noticeable loss of image quality from one centimeter away for true macro results,” notes Olympus. When the 8x super resolution zoom is used, aspects of the natural world usually invisible to the eye, like veins on a leaf, are revealed. Adding to picture quality is high-speed AF and enhanced intelligent auto for scene and subject recognition. And a lens adapter converter ring enables the attachment of a waterproof fisheye converter or teleconverter lens.

Other features include: a 3.0-inch, 610k-dot OLED; 5-fps bursts, or 60 fps at 3MP; Full HD video recording with multi-motion movie image stabilization; manual aperture priority mode; HDR backlight adjustment, which takes a collage of images at various exposure levels and blends them into one properly exposed photo; an LED illuminator; Shadow Adjustment technology, which adjusts shadows within an image shot under backlit conditions so a subject’s face can be revealed even under harsh lighting; and 11 magic filters that can be applied to stills and video.

Users can mark a spot on the map with the GPS and e-compass functions that display location and landmark information with every shot. A manometer records elevation and water depth and displays a warning when users approach 50 feet. And they can share images using the Olympus Image Share smartphone app (via optional Toshiba FlashAir SDHC or Eye-Fi cards).
