Golden, CO—Pentax Imaging’s new Optio RZ18 digital compact camera has a slim, lightweight body that houses an 18x optical zoom lens covering equivalent focal lengths from 25mm wide angle to 450mm super telephoto.
The RZ18 is the latest addition to the Pentax Optio RZ zoom lens series, which is designed to provide photographers with effortless shooting of a variety of subjects and occasions, from travel and landscape to action and spectator sports.
The camera’s intelligent zoom function is said to further extend the zoom range to 130 times to cover the equivalent focal length of a 3250mm super-telephoto lens.
Other key RZ18 features include: a 16 megapixel sensor; multiple Pentax Shake Reduction (SR) image stabilization options, including sensor-shift SR, for better low-light performance; a 3.0-inch LCD with HVGA resolution (460,000 dots); automatic shooting modes, such as auto picture and scene modes added to take the guesswork out of shooting; 16 shooting modes; creative special effects filters to add artistic flair; 9-point autofocus with a 4cm super macro mode; face detection for optimally focused and exposed portraits; a pet recognition feature that gives priority to three preregistered pet faces over unregistered ones; and the ability to record widescreen HD video in 720p at 30 frames per second with SR options.
Also notable are the camera’s wireless remote-control shooting using an optional Pentax infrared remote controller; burst shooting of 40 images at 9 images per sec; a digital panorama mode; and support for Eye-Fi cards for wireless transfer.
