Parsippany, NJRicoh Imaging Americas Corporation debuted the Ricoh GR IIIx Urban Edition special limited kit. It features the Ricoh GR IIIx premium point-and-shoot camera sporting a metallic gray finish and navy-blue ring around the lens barrel.

In addition, the kit includes exclusive, specially designed accessories; for example, a leather hand strap and a metallic hot shoe cover.

Moreover, a second special package features just the Ricoh GR IIIx Urban Edition body, without the hand strap hot shoe cover. Ricoh will release the body-only kit in summer 2022.

Ricoh GR III Street Edition Special Limited Kit

The GR IIIx Urban Edition camera body is accented by a navy-blue ring around the lens barrel. What’s more, the color represents typical street-shooter imagery; for instance, deep blue skies reflected in a puddle following a rainfall or a city’s bright neon signs. Further, its metallic gray finish is reminiscent of the gritty tones of the urban landscape.

This exterior finish required a multi-coat process, which results in the camera’s distinctive appearance and smooth texture. The coating also helps make it easier for photographers to get a firm grip on the camera.

In addition, the navy stripe on the leather hand strap matches the color of the lens barrel ring. The package also includes a specially designed black metallic hot shoe cover.

While the special edition camera has the identical specifications of the standard GR IIIx, like a 40mm-equivalent GR lens, this edition debuts new functions. Subsequently, Ricoh will provide these new functions for standard GR IIIx models with firmware updates at the release of the new edition.

Newly Added Functions & Features

One of the new functions is a snap distance priority mode in the exposure setting. Once the preferred distance for snapshots as well as the desired depth of field are set in advance, the camera lets users recall these settings. The setting is programmed to select the aperture, providing the depth of field used in pan-focus photography. As a result, the camera is a solution for quick snapshot photography. Also new is the auto area AF (center) autofocus mode. Instead of covering the entire image field, this mode operates only in nine focus zones around the center of the image field. As a result, it prevents the camera from focusing on unintended elements, such as a grassy field in the foreground.

Another new feature is AF mode shutter-release capability. When users press the shutter release button halfway down, they lock the AF system only, without locking the AE (autoexposure) system. Ricoh Imaging Americas Ricoh-Imaging-Logo-2014

Finally, Ricoh added a distance setting of 11.5 feet to the camera’s snapshot mode. Moreover, a long press on the monitor during playback allows the user to instantly recall the playback function selection menu.

In addition, when photographers turn off the camera’s power, it displays an original shutdown screen. The new screen features the product logo and a street-view image symbolizing the package’s urban-oriented concept.

The Ricoh GR IIIx Urban Edition special limited kit will ship in limited quantities starting April 2022. It will have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $1,099.95.
