Melville, NY—Canon USA will begin offering free firmware upgrades for its Pixma MG7120 wireless inkjet all-in-one photo printer and four imageClass laser multifunction printers that received Mopria certification. This will enable simple and convenient printing from select mobile devices.

In addition to the Pixma MG7120, the Mopria-certified Canon printer lineup includes the imageClass MF6180dw/MF6160dw and color MF8580Cdw/MF8280Cw laser multifunction printers for home offices and small- to medium-size businesses.

The devices were certified by the Mopria Alliance, which was launched in September 2013 by Canon, HP, Samsung Electronics and Xerox with the goal of providing intuitively simple wireless printing from smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices.

The upgrades allow for automatic detection of these Canon devices over a Wi-Fi connection from Mopria-certified smartphones, tablets and other compatible mobile devices. Users can print documents and photos from these mobile devices by selecting a detected printer indicated on their device’s screen, without installing apps specific to each printer.

Canon, as a founding member of the Mopria Alliance, is among the first companies to begin developing Mopria-certified products. The company plans on continuing its efforts to make printing as convenient as possible for users and enhancing its lineup of Mopria-certified products. usa.canon.com
