Portland, OR—The all-new ON1 Photo RAW 2022 photo editor software was introduced by ON1. Version 2022 includes the new sky swap AI for replacing dull skies; full integration of the new ON1 NoNoise AI; the ability to host certain Photoshop plug-ins; new creative features like the ability to create time-lapse videos; a new line mask tool; as well as remastered export and browse enhancements.
In addition, Photo RAW 2022 builds upon previous versions of Photo RAW. Consequently, customers can enjoy the tools and features they are used to, like browse, develop, effects, resize, portrait AI and HDR.
“As I’ve said before, it’s going to be a great year for ON1 Photo RAW customers. Our development team is already busy working on another significant update to ON1 Photo RAW 2022, which will be a free update for owners,” said Craig Keudell, president of ON1.
“This will include a new integrated AI-powered ON1 resize; a liquify tool; much improved searching and filtering capabilities in the browse module; content-aware cropping and filling; and enhancements to ON1 Photo RAW for mobile.”
ON1 Photo RAW 2022 New Features
Sky Swap AI
This function automatically detects the sky in photos and creates a mask. Users can select from more than 100 included skies or import their own. They also have complete control over the mask used to blend the sky. Moreover, they can use the masking tools they are already familiar with to adjust it as needed.
They can adjust the sky to blend better with the foreground, even blur the sky to simulate a long exposure. Sky swap AI also will adjust the foreground lighting and color and add a reflection of the sky to water found in the foreground.
Time-Lapse Creation
The time-lapse creation dialog can create time-lapse videos from still photo sequences. Users can preview the results in the dialog and create quick proof versions or high-quality final results.
It also detects when the camera is bumped and can filter out misaligned frames. Additionally, it detects changes in exposure and can even them out automatically, making day to night videos possible. Finally, users can increase or decrease the speed to stretch out short sequences into longer, smooth videos.
Integration of ON1 NoNoise AI
ON1’s AI-based noise removal is now built into the core RAW processing in ON1 Photo RAW. It can be used on the fly and nondestructively, just like any other RAW processing adjustment. Moreover, there is no need to create intermediate DNG or TIF files.
Photoshop Plug-in Host
With the new version, users can also run plug-ins made for Adobe Photoshop right inside ON1 Photo RAW. If they have collected plug-ins for years, users can now access them inside the app where they do the rest of the work; there is no need to launch or subscribe to Photoshop. 
Retooled Export
ON1 took 100+ suggestions from users and rebuilt the export tool from the ground up. First, presets are more powerful; users can run more than one simultaneously right from the file menu.
There are also more options. In file type, users can now create DNGs or export copies of the original. File renaming is also more flexible, as is the creation of destinations. In addition, users can use multiple watermarks at the same time and apply text or graphics for them. Resizing is also more powerful and flexible. And users have control over what metadata is written to exported files.
Line Mask Tool
Similar to a polygonal lasso or pen tool, this new tool creates masks using straight lines. Users can now also curve the lines, add and remove points or change the feather and opacity of the shapes created anytime, even after creation. The changes are nondestructive and work with the other masking tools in ON1 Photo RAW.
Backup and Restore
These new functions will recover work more easily than before. They back up all work, settings, albums, presets and extras. Users can also have the restore feature recover from a disaster on their computer or migrate everything to a new computer.
Favorites in Browse
ON1 also added a favorites pane to browse, to help access frequently used folders. Users can drag and drop a folder they often access to the favorites pane to create a shortcut. They can also navigate through the favorites subfolder in the favorites pane without worrying about all the folders above it.
Customizable Thumbnails
The new version also allows great flexibility over the appearance of the thumbnails in browse. Users control what is displayed on them; how big the labels are; as well as when they appear. They can also choose between light or dark themes and between regular or square thumbnails.
Gestures
Now, zooming, panning or changing photos is more natural with an animated experience, with full gesture support on macOS trackpads and Windows touch-screen devices.
