San Diego, CA—Sony Electronics introduced the Sony FE 16-25mm F2.8 G (SEL1625G) lens. Moreover, the large-aperture wide-angle zoom lens is compatible with Sony’s α (Alpha) E-mount cameras. This latest addition delivers imagery from 16mm through 25mm while maintaining a maximum aperture of f/2.8 over its zoom range. In addition, it is the smallest and lightest constant f/2.8 zoom lens Sony has produced.

The FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G’s wide angle offers photographers and videographers an expanded range of creative expression. It allows them to capture a variety of subjects, including landscapes, architecture, portraits and selfies. Further, this new lens follows the FE 24–50mm f/2.8 G standard zoom lens announced in February 2024. Additionally, they offer many of the same characteristics, such as filter diameter, aperture as well as compactness.

The FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G’s compact and lightweight body has a width of about 2.94 inches, a length of 3.6 inches, a filter diameter of φ67mm as well as a weight of approximately 14.4 ounces. Sony-FE-16-25mm-f28-G-on-camera

This lens incorporates Sony’s latest optical technology to deliver image quality across the entire frame. It features 16-element, 13-group construction. It uses three extra-low dispersion (ED) elements as well as four aspherical lenses (including one ED aspherical lens) to minimize various optical aberrations, including chromatic aberration.

Additionally, it combines an 11-blade circular aperture and the optimization of spherical aberration to produce the G lens series’ signature smooth bokeh. Moreover, it offers close-up shooting capabilities with a minimum shooting distance of just over 7 inches and a 0.20x maximum magnification when using autofocus (AF).

The lens also employs two linear motors to deliver high-speed, precision and quiet autofocus, even when capturing fast-moving subjects. These linear motors help ensure accurate focusing even in challenging shooting situations. Furthermore, the lens supports high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second. That is a feature capable of use when paired with the Alpha 9 III full-frame mirrorless camera.

More Features

What’s more, Sony engineered the FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G for video performance, to ensure smooth, precise focusing even when shooting high-frame-rate videos such as 4K 120p or FHD 240p. The lens also provides linear response manual focus (MF), allowing videographers to make focus adjustments more easily. Additionally, it supports in-body active mode image stabilization and focus breathing compensation to optimize video capture.

Other user-friendly features include a customizable focus hold button; an aperture ring; an aperture click on/off switch; as well as a focus mode switch. Furthermore, the lens is dust and moisture resistant. Plus, a fluorine coating prevents dirt from sticking to the front surface of the lens.

The Sony FE 16–25mm f/2.8 G lens is now available for pre-sale and may be purchased May 10, 2024. It has a suggested retail price of $1,199.99.
