San Diego, CA—Sony Electronics announced it made significant Sony mocopi updates to improve its virtual content creation workflow. The motion capture system now integrates with SlimeVR to provide an option for VRChat users to connect through a PC.

Sony’s mocopi system was at the forefront of mobile virtual reality (VR) technology. However, based on customer feedback, Sony believes this now-available update strengthens mocopi’s position in mobile VR. In particular, the goal is to establish mocopi as a key player in the PC-connected VR space, especially for VRChat users who want a lightweight, easy-to-use yet more stable connection to PC platforms.

In addition, this software update includes several upgrades. They comprise integration with a new avatar platform, workflow improvements for content creation and fun enhancements.

While Sony designed mocopi’s mobile-first approach for its ease of setup and use, there was a growing demand for a robust PC connection option. Responding to user feedback, Sony has now enabled integration with SlimeVR. Consequently, users can connect mocopi with a PC for improved pose estimation and overall experience in VR spaces.

SlimeVR is a full-body tracking solution primarily for VR applications running on the SteamVR platform. It offers an efficient way to achieve full-body tracking, enhancing the VR experience by allowing more immersive as well as interactive gameplay or simulations. This integration helps ensure that while mocopi retains its mobile accessibility, it now also caters to users seeking a more powerful PC-based setup.

New Avatars & Enhanced Functionality

Among the other upgrades are upper-body focus mode. Tailored for users concentrating on upper body movements, this mode allows for additional tracking points on specific limbs, enhancing the precision of motion capture.

Furthermore, there are now new avatar options with the ability to import from Avaturn. “This integration with Avaturn is particularly exciting, as it allows users to import a selfie and create a personalized avatar with speed and ease, offering both free and paid versions,” Sony announced. In addition, the software update offers workflow improvements for a smoother experience. For instance, simultaneous motion data sending and saving is now possible to achieve enhanced workflow efficiency. What’s more, before saving, users can customize the name of motion files, moving away from the default automatic naming. Moreover, new motion library management provides the ability to delete and rename files in the motion library. Plus, a lock function prevents accidental avatar screen movements.

Finally, the update includes a fun new avatar for enhanced personalization. The Mini RAYNOS-chan avatar is preinstalled for immediate use.
