With the market for digital storage hitting a critical point in its development, the recent news that online digital media storage company Fabrik has acquired SimpleTech’s consumer product business for $43 million appears well-timed. As the digital storage market continues to heat up we can expect to see a few more mergers and acquisitions in the months ahead.

This acquisition gives Fabrik access to SimpleTech’s hard disk drive and network storage solutions in addition to the company’s flash-memory cards, USB flash drives and memory upgrades.

Fabrik said in a released statement that it intends to continue to market these products under the SimpleTech brand name. The plan is to integrate these products with its online services to create, as they explain, “a more complete suite of highly integrated online services, intelligent network appliances and simple-to-use solutions for personal media enthusiasts.” Fabrik also operates www.myfabrik.com for organizing and sharing digital content.

As consumers and businesses continue to become buried under the avalanche of digital content they are collecting (images, video, music, etc.), we are beginning to see many new and affordable solutions come to market to help solve this growing problem.
