For your customers who are serious about storing their digital content, Kingston has introduced the portable flash drive they’ve been waiting for. The company’s latest DataTraveler, dubbed Black Box, is housed in a water-proof, titanium-coated stainless steel outer shell and is the first Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS)-validated drive, which essentially means that it has been given the seal of approval from the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Kingston explains that, ”you’ll find 256-bit hardware-based AES encryption via a dedicated processor which automatically encrypts and decrypts data on the fly.” The Black Box will also enter lock down mode if you happen to forget your password a specified number of times.
The Black Box flash drive comes loaded with several features – compatible with Windows Vista (32 bit), Windows 2000(SP3, Sp4) and Windows XP (SP1, SP2) operating systems. It can read data up to 24MB per second and write data up to 20MB per second.
With data storage beginning to take on a life of its own lately, you can expect to see more and more products like Kingston’s Black Box. Expect to see MSRPs of $165 (2GB), $242 (4GB) and $424 (8GB).
