First came the TV ratings, and then Nielsen Net Ratings. Now, the audience measurement firm will take its act to another medium: Mobile phones.
The rise of Internet use on mobile devices has pushed The Nielsen Company to create Nielsen Mobile Vector, a new measuring system for following users’ phone media consumption, the Financial Times reported last month. The move comes as the mobile entertainment sector is booming, and the entertainment and telecommunications industries are eager to find out more about mobile phone users’ habits.
The new service is scheduled to debut this month. In its announcement, Nielsen estimated that 33 million people used mobile web services and eight million used mobile video in the last month.
