Online sales on Cyber Monday jumped nearly 14 percent over last year’s level, with shopping momentum rising throughout the day. That’s according to figures released early Tuesday by research firm Coremetrics.

According to Coremetrics’ Cyber Monday Benchmark Report, online retailers in the U.S. reported a 13.7 percent increase in sales on Cyber Monday versus the same day last year. Consumers also bought 30 percent more items per order on this Cyber Monday versus last.

However, the average consumer spent slightly less, overall, on Cyber Monday than the same period last year, Coremetrics’ chief strategist told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Coremetrics analyzes data from 500 major retailers.
