Amid all the glitz and glamour that is Oscar night in Holloywood, it’s easy to forget that some incredible imaging technology is behind all the great performances that are nominated and/or win the awards. Enter Lensbabies, LLC and their PL mount Lensbaby that was used extensively in the filming of the Oscar nominated motion picture, “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly.”  The film features important sequences shot with the Lensbaby lens, which was used to emulate the mental picture of the main character’s vision upon waking up from a stroke induced coma.

“The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” was directed by Julian Schnabel and filmed by Janusz Kaminski. Janusz Kaminski has been nominated for an Academy Award for Achievement in Cinematography and Julian Schnabel has been nominated for an Academy Award for Achievement in Directing.

Craig Strong, the President and Co-Founder of Lensbabies said, “We commend Mr. Kaminski and Mr. Schnabel for having the courage to use an unconventional lens to express their brilliant creative vision.”
