Photokina 2006: Viva la Difference

Running from September 26 to October 1, Photokina 2006 has added several new aspects to this year’s show. Chief among them are conferences and show floor demos centered around Mobile Imaging and Scrapbooking, as both of these emerging markets will be taking center stage at the bi-annual imaging extravaganza.

Show organizers are promising the Imaging with Mobile Devices Conference, an event divided into two parts with Part I, titled “Picture-Taking with Mobile Imaging Devices,” handling the developments of the American and European markets for camera phones, providing information about auto digital image correction and examining trends in the use of kiosk systems.

Part II will look at “Picture-Making from Mobile Imaging Devices” and will examine the capture and printing of images from camera phones and wireless digital cameras. This portion of the conference will also focus on the online albuming/photo gifting market as well as online photofinishing in general. For times and dates check out www.photokina.de.

The wildly popular hobby of Scrapbooking will also be highlighted at the show as a special area has been designated for hands-on demos, product introductions and market analysis.

Add to all this the fact the show will take place in the newly renovated Koelnmesse, a conference center that organizers claim has been “dramatically improved.” Four new identical halls provide the exhibition center with a much clearer set up with an outdoor mall-type walk-through that takes visitors right down the middle of the structure for easy access to all four halls. In addition to approximately 75,000 m of outdoor space, the four new halls will offer approximately 80,000 m of exhibition space.
