The Consumer Electronics Association Monday announced a new effort that it calls the Innovation Movement. The purpose of the grass roots movement, the group said, is to "focus U.S. policies on advancing innovation with the goal of ensuring continued U.S. global economic leadership."

Part of CEA’s government affairs division, the Innovation Movement is based on the group’s Innovation Checklist, announced in March.

“Innovation is in our DNA—it’s part of our culture. The American public is concerned that our country is losing the innovative and entrepreneurial recipe that drives U.S. economic growth and prosperity,” president and CEO Gary Shapiro said as part of the announcement.

“That is why we need a grassroots movement to make innovation the center of national policy debates. Whether it is health care, energy, taxes or even how our companies are organized, we must ensure that U.S. policies promote innovation that generates American jobs.”

In conjunction with the announcement of the effort’s start, the company announced the results of a survey, conducted along with Zogby International, finding that 43 percent of respondents considered "remaining the innovation leaders of the world" was most important to the future of America’s success, beating out economic size and military leadership.
