Wooda, Coulda, Mighta?

Classifying this next item was a bit difficult – not so much in figuring out if it was big or small, as it was clearly a pocketable digital camera. It just wasn’t your typical digital camera. You see, Olympus provided but a peek at a prototype digicam model the company is toying with …and….well…..it’s made of wood. Yes, the Woodcam may soon be coming to imaging retail. As much as we have all fallen in love with brushed stainless steel or shiny aluminum, we dare say this polished wooden beauty was quite fetching. The camera’s outer shell is actually constructed from Japanese cypress and is shaped somewhat like a surfboard or toy boat.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any details about the camera’s inner workings, but you can bet it will be a solid little picture-taker based on the Olympus pedigree. No word either on a possible release date as Olympus explained that this neat little idea was still in the “experimental stage,” but suffice it to say this little wooden dream had a lot of folks talking at the show. The Woodcam Cometh.
