Renowned National Geographic photographer Michael Melford had his work immortalized on a postage stamp depicting Montana’s Glacier National Park. The odds of getting on a stamp are a 40,000 to 25 shot.
“This is very exciting for me, as it puts me up there with my hero, Ansel Adams, who had some of his images on U.S. Postal Service stamps,” said Mystic, Connecticut-based Melford. “And I’m especially pleased that this image was chosen. Glacier National Park, one of the most beautiful spots in the world, is part of The Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, the very first International Peace Park established in 1932 when Glacier National Park (U.S.) and Waterton Lakes National Park (Canada), were joined.”
Melford’s photograph, which depicts Logan Pass, the highest point on the park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road with the Norther Rocky Mountains in the background, appears on the new .85¢ international stamp on sale at Post Offices nationwide. The stamp also may be used to mail 2-oz. domestic First-Class Mail.
