Mountain View, CA—Eyefi’s updated offerings include support for Wi-Fi enabled cameras from GoPro and Olympus, so photographers don’t have to wait until they get home to upload and share their photos.
Photos from those cameras can now be instantly transferred, automatically organized and displayed alongside images captured with other cameras, including DSLR cameras using an Eyefi Mobi Wi-Fi SD card, mobile phones and tablets. With Eyefi Cloud Smart Tags, the entire collection of photos is automatically classified by subject area and synced to all devices, making it easier to find and share memories as soon as they happen.
“No one uses only one device for taking pictures anymore,” said Matt DiMaria, Eyefi’s CEO. “When it comes to camera gear, today’s photo enthusiast relies on an array of equipment—from Wi-Fi cameras and DSLRs with an Eyefi Mobi card to smartphones and tablets. With Eyefi, photos from each camera are instantly transferred and available in a single collection, eliminating tedious, time-consuming manual transfer and consolidation step; and with Eyefi Cloud, photos are made available on every device, instantly.”
In addition to having photos in a single collection, Eyefi brings another level of organization to photographers. Smart Tags automatically identifies the subject or subjects in each photo and applies tags automatically. Dozens of tags—such as person, landscape, food and drink—are included, and custom tags can be created. Smart Tags are completely configurable by the user, giving them control over how their images are organized.
Additionally, Eyefi’s “discover” feature is a visualization tool that helps photographers learn more about how they shoot, and how settings and combination of settings affect images. Discover takes camera metadata—such as model, ISO, aperture and shutter speed—and enables photographers to analyze their photos. Results are displayed in a graphical format.
Eyefi’s Wi-Fi camera connectivity is available for Android-based devices and will be released for iOS-based devices later this year. It is available for use with GoPro Hero+ LCD, Hero3 and Hero4 cams, as well as Olympus Stylus 1, PEN E-P5, Stylus Tough TG-860 and OM-D E-M5 Mark II cameras.
Eyefi also announced a new $4.99 monthly pricing option for Eyefi Cloud. The subscription includes Wi-Fi camera connectivity support for GoPro and Olympus cameras with built-in Wi-Fi. Eyefi Mobi app users who don’t subscribe to Eyefi Cloud can add Wi-Fi camera connectivity to their Eyefi Mobi app with an in-app purchase of $4.99. eyefi.com
