Hauppauge, NY—This July, B+W Filter, an iconic German brand for amateur and professional photographers, celebrated its 75th anniversary.

“This is a festive occasion to both look back and marvel at a very successful three quarters of a century; during which the company has established a worldwide reputation as a manufacturer of high-quality and innovative filters, the company commented.

Filters are indispensable accessories for photographers. The right filters help them to express themselves and transport their message. They can enhance colors, dramatize contrasts as well as create special effects.

B+W Filter Milestones

Knowing this, in July 1947, Walter Biermann and Johannes Weber founded the Optische Spezialwerkstätten Biermann + Weber in Berlin. This marked the birth of the B+W Filter brand.

After the 1958 move to Wiesbaden, their search for technical innovations led to a partnership with Jos. Schneider Optische Werke (Schneider-Kreuznach). Schneider Kreuznach took over in 1985.

In 1988, the company expanded its portfolio with special polarization filters developed by the German pioneer Erwin Käsemann.

Moreover, the development of the MRC coating was a major milestone in the history of B+W Filter. In the mid-1990s, the brand was the first manufacturer worldwide to introduce this technology.

In the 2000s, further research and improvements also led to the launch of the MRC nano coating; this brought antireflection lens technology to a whole new level.

The quality standards of B+W Filter are continuously updated. “The heart of every B+W Filter is a polished and finely ground glass substrate. Even the smallest deviations make a big difference in the result of the filters,” the company added. “That is why the strive for highquality standards and further innovations is a matter of prime importance to the German brand.” B+W Filter-Schneider-Kreuznach-logoWhat’s more, to celebrate its 75th birthday, the company launched two filter lines: Basic (replacing the F-Pro line) and Master (replacing XS-Pro). B+W Filter also introduced a new packaging concept containing high-quality genuine leather cases.

On top of that, the brand again invested in new safety standards and presented an optimized safety label, to guarantee the authenticity of its filters.

Finally, the company will announce a big surprise for the second half of the year.
