Olympus announced Tuesday that it has named F. Mark Gumz as its new president and CEO. Gumz, a 30-year veteran of the company, had served as president and COO of the company’s U.S. subsidiary for the past eight years, and will continue in those roles as well. Gumz’s appointment is effective immediately.

In addition, the company announced that the company’s Western hemisphere holding company, formerly known as Olympus USA Incorporated, will now be called Olympus Corporation of the Americas (OCA).

“Mark’s new position is part of a long-term plan to continue to position Olympus and its subsidiaries for success, to meet market needs and to best serve our customers through a region-specific management strategy executed around the world,” Olympus Corp.’s president, Tsuyoshi Kikukawa, said as part of the announcement.

Gumz becomes the first American to be named CEO of any part of Olympus.
