Mountain View, CA—DxO Labs released DxO Optics Pro v8.3, a new version of its image-processing software of reference for serious photographers that now supports GoPro action cameras, five of the latest Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy smartphones, and nine Samsung NX and EX digital cameras.

Based on an approach to calibrating photo equipment under laboratory conditions, DxO Optics Pro 8, which received the 2013 TIPA Award for Best Photo Software, integrates automatic tools for processing RAW and JPEG images. It also offers tools for automatically adjusting contrast and light, and for precise color management.

The new update brings to GoPro camera users DxO Labs’ expertise in correcting optical defects. The software is designed to automatically remove distortions due to the GoPro cameras’ use of a very wide-angle lens. Among other things, DxO Optics Pro v8.3’s correction of volume anamorphosis restores the proper proportions of the subjects located on the edges of images, resulting in photos that look more natural. DxO Optics Pro v8.3 supports the GoPro Hero3 line and the GoPro HD Hero2.

The software also benefits from the addition of new DxO optics modules that automatically correct the optical defects of the iPhone 4, 4S and 5, as well as those of the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 smartphones.

Additionally, DxO Labs’ increased laboratory capacity now enables DxO Optics Pro v8.3 to work with new camera lines, offering support for hybrid cameras like the Samsung NX10, NX11, NX20, NX100, NX200, NX210 and NX300, as well as the EX-1 and EX-2 compact models.

According to the company, 168 camera/lens combinations were added to Pro 8’s optics modules library, bringing the total to more than 13,000 optics modules. This database allows DxO Optics Pro 8 to automatically make corrections that are specific to each camera—fixing distortion, vignetting, chromatic aberrations and lens softness.

DxO Labs expects to soon add support for the Canon EOS 70D DSLR, new Sony compacts, Panasonic and Olympus hybrid models and the Samsung Galaxy NX.

The Standard and Elite editions of DxO Optics Pro v8.3 for Mac/Windows are available at a discount through July 31, 2013. DxO Optics Pro 8 Standard edition is now $99, instead of $169; the DxO Optics Pro 8 Elite edition is discounted to $199, instead of $299. The upgrade is free for all owners of DxO Optics Pro 8, as well as for photographers who obtained a DxO Optics Pro 7 license on or after September 1, 2012. dxo.com
