The average U.S. household estimates that it spent just over $1,400 on consumer electronics in the past 12 months- a gain of $120 from the same period a year ago. That’s according to Household CE Ownership and Market Potential Study, which was conducted by the Consumer Electronics Association and released this week.
Despite the weak economy, the gains were driven most of all by purchases of HDTVs, with buying of cameras, mobile phones and mp3 players playing a part as well.
The study also found that the actual number of CE products owned per household declined from 25 to 24, a drop that it attributed to the proliferation of smart phones and other multifunctional devices.
