Long Beach, CA—At the West Coast Art & Frame Expo, held January 25–27, 2016 at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Epson debuted the 64-inch SureColor P20000 printer.

Engineered for the high production of virtually any photographic imaging application, it is the successor to the Epson Stylus Pro 11880. The new printer leverages an enhanced PrecisionCore Micro printhead and media feeding system. It also uses a reformulated Epson UltraChrome Pro nine-color pigment ink system with four-level gray technology. The SureColor P20000 is being marketed to professional photographers, fine art reproduction providers and display graphics printers.

“Epson is focused on creating printing solutions that provide the quality, performance and reliability that our customers have grown to expect,” said Larry Kaufman, product manager, Epson Professional Imaging, Epson America. “The SureColor P20000 is designed to do just that. It pushes the boundaries of previous fine art and photographic printing capabilities with advanced print head technology and all-new ink technology designed to output exceptional image quality at incredibly fast speeds. And it also keeps operation costs and overhead at a minimum.”
Epson-Logo-6-09The printer utilizes an all-new, 10-channel PrecisionCore Micro printhead. It is engineered to deliver output up to 2.8x faster than previous Epson models. The printhead measures 2.64 inches and is capable of printing at resolutions up to 2,400×1,200 dpi. It also supports variable-size ink droplet technology as small as 3.5 picoliters. Other new enhancements include Nozzle Verification technology and automatic nozzle cleaning without the use of additional media.

Combined with the new Epson UltraChrome Pro nine-color pigment ink system, the SureColor P20000 is said to provide “outstanding color and black density.”

Epson UltraChrome Pro features four-levels of gray ink technology. Gray, light gray, dark gray and black pigments provide less visible noise and reduce bronzing for grayscale output. In addition, the printer uses improved Resin Encapsulation technology developed for gloss uniformity with improved contrast ratio and clarity.

A new yellow pigment formulation also was developed to provide twice the print permanence and longevity than previous ink sets. In addition, individual ink cartridges up to 700ml help enable users to avoid production downtimes.

Other features include: Advanced Black & White Printing technology that uses a four-level black system to optimize black-and-white print quality; and dedicated photo black and matte black channels that support automatic black ink type switching. It also employs new CMOS sensors in the media feeding system that permit the printer to capture photographs from the back side of the media and incorporate a pattern recognition algorithm for accurate media placement; an internal 320GB print server for transferring print jobs; and new inductive rollers that automatically load cut-sheet media without a skew and protect media from scratches.

In addition, the SureColor P20000 supports straight-through poster board up to 1.5mm thick from 17 to 64 inches wide. Border-free printing is also supported for a variety of media sizes.
