Newark, NJ—The new Panasonic Lumix S 28-200mm F4-7.1 Macro OIS (S-R28200) lens is based on the L-mount standard. Moreover, Panasonic is touting the lens as “the world’s smallest and lightest long zoom lens.” Able to fit in the palm of a hand, the 28–200mm lens has a total length of 3.7 inches and weighs in at 14.6 ounces. Further, the first wide-to-tele zoom for Lumix S series cameras, the lens is compact and lightweight to match the camera body.

Panasonic engineered the lens for enhanced imaging performance with beautiful bokeh and a starburst effect. In addition, it is capable of half life-size macro shooting and close-up photography from 1.2 inches between the end of the lens and the subject. With a versatile range of focal lengths from 28mm wide angle to 200mm telephoto, the lens is an option for scenarios from landscapes to portraits.

The new 28–200mm lens boasts high-speed, precise, silent autofocus. This is complemented by Panasonic’s 5-axis Dual IS 2 (image stabilizer) compatibility. Consequently, the lens can compensate for up to 6.5 stops of correction. It also offers micro-step aperture control for smoother exposure changes, as well as the ability to choose between linear or nonlinear focus ring settings.

Its half-size macro capabilities with a maximum magnification of 0.5x makes it a solution for close-ups of flowers, table settings and other subject matter. What’s more, its bokeh effect makes the subject stand out. In addition, you can stop down the aperture to capture a spacious background.

For video production, the lens also suppresses focus breathing, in which the angle of view changes caused by movements in the focus position. Furthermore, the lens features dust- and splash-resistant construction and allows shooting in temperatures as low as 14ºF. Additionally, Panasonic applied a fluorine coating to the front lens to prevent oil-based dirt from sticking. Panasonic-Lumix-S-28-200m-f4-71-macro-OIS-On-Camera

Finally, the lens’s configuration has 17 elements in 13 groups. They include one Asph; one ultrahigh-refractive; and four ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses to minimize aberrations.

The Panasonic Lumix S 28–200mm f/4–7.1 Macro OIS lens will reach retail the end of April 2024. It will have a suggested retail price of $899.99.
