Melville, NY—With the announcement of the development of the Canon EOS R3 professional mirrorless camera, Canon USA unveiled a trio of RF prime lenses. They are scheduled for release in July.
A Trio of RF Prime Lenses
RF100mm f/2.8 L Macro IS USM
This is not only Canon’s first RF lens specifically for macro photography but also the first medium telephoto macro lens with a 1.4x magnification. For advanced enthusiasts and pros, it takes macro photography expression to another level via a spherical aberration (SA) control ring.
By turning the SA control ring, users can change the appearance of the bokeh and obtain a softer focus effect. The lens also employs an optical image stabilizer with 5 stops of shake correction. On a camera featuring in-body IS, that reaches 8 stops. Also, hybrid IS compensates for angular and shift camera shake during macro shooting.
Other features include fast, smooth, quiet autofocus with dual nano USM; a customizable control ring to adjust exposure compensation, shutter speed, aperture or ISO; and dust/water resistance. SRP: $1,399.
RF400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF600mm f/4L IS USM
Both lenses are optically identical to their EF counterparts. The RF400mm ($11,999) and RF600mm ($12,999) weigh 6.37 and 6.81 pounds, respectively. They also provide minimum focusing distances of 8.2 and 13.8 feet.
Ideal for sports, aviation, trains, automotive and wildlife, among their features is optical image stabilization with 5.5 stops of shake correction. They also have three IS modes: still subjects, panning and irregular movement.
Canon Super Spectra and Air Sphere lens coatings minimize ghosting and flaring. And fluorite and super UD elements correct chromatic aberration and make the lenses more compact.
Other features include a customizable electronic focus ring, with manual focus capability during servo AF; a 9-blade circular aperture to create bokeh; two focus presets; dust, water, vibration and shock resistance; a fluorine coating on the front element; and titanium oxide lens barrel coating with silica for UV weather resistance and heat reduction.
