Denver, CO—Along with the family-friendly K-S2 weatherproof digital SLR featuring a 20 megapixel, AA filter-less CMOS sensor, Ricoh Imaging unveiled a new flagship for its WG series of everything-proof point-and-shoot cameras. The WG-5 GPS is equipped with new features for active lifestyle photographers, including a new underwater mode and enhanced interval shooting settings that allow multiple images to be taken over a preset time.

“The WG-5 GPS’s easy to use modes and convenient features are ideal for the on-the-go adventurer,” said Jim Malcolm, president, Ricoh Imaging North America. “The WG-5 GPS enables users to capture their own personal adventures in any condition. With the WG-5 GPS, savoring all of every moment is possible.”

The dustproof, heavy-duty WG-5 GPS is waterproof to a depth of 45 feet, has upgraded shock resistance against a fall of 7 feet, is cold resistant against temperatures as low as 14º F and is crushproof against weights of 220 pounds. Its ruggedized body also provides a nonslip grip.

Employing a 16 megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS sensor, the P&S uses a 4x optical zoom lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.0 and 25mm wide-angle coverage. Its 25–100mm equivalent focal range will take in everything from wide vistas to detailed close-ups. And it’s engineered to capture the tiniest details with six LED macro lights placed around the circumference of the lens barrel. The lights allow for brighter, more uniform illumination on a subject when digital microscope mode is selected. They also provide additional illumination in self-portrait assist mode and act as a flashlight.

Other key features include: a 3-inch LCD monitor with an antireflection coating to reduce glare, even in strong sunlight; Full HD video recording in the H.264 format at 30 frames per second; a dual antishake system; handheld night snap mode, which captures several images of the same nighttime scene to produce one blur-free composite image; several underwater modes, including mermaid and mermaid movie mode that reproduce shades of red often lost in underwater scenes; digital filter effects; two remote control receptors; extended battery life; and support for Eyefi wireless SD memory cards. A built-in GPS module automatically records travel log data onto images and adjusts the built-in clock to local time.

Ricoh offers an assortment of mounting accessories, such as a flat surface camera mount, handlebar mount and suction cup camera mount. The WG-5 GPS retails for $379.95. ricohimaging.com
