Consumers and retailers alike are beginning to embrace digital photo frames (DPFs), with huge growth expected in the coming years. That’s according to a report, called “Digital Photo Frame Market Gaining Momentum,” released this week by the research firm iSuppli Corp.
The report projected that worldwide shipments of DPFs will jump to 22.7 million, a 58.8 percent gain from 2007’s figure; only 4 million were shipped in 2006. That number is expected to reach 78.2 million in 2011.
Digital photo frames first hit the market in a big way in 2005, and since then, as the market has proliferated, more and more vendors have entered it and introduced such features as audio, full-motion video, web-based photo sharing and larger screen sizes. The products’ average selling price has dropped below $100, but is expected to rise again soon, thanks to shortages and extra features, iSuppli said in its report.
