Lots of interesting news within the portable video space of late with the announcement that the popular Flip camcorder has been discontinued and the number of video uploads to the Web continuing to astound.

Capturing video on the fly with a device that you can have with you at all times has driven this market to the remarkable level it currently sits at and we’re seeing more and more manufacturers jockeying for a piece of this pie.

Throw 3D technology into the mix as well as DXG recently announced several new 3D models that actually represent the company's second generation in the camcorder market's 3D segment. The company’s 2011 3D offerings are all full HD 1080p models, available in the pistol-gripped DXG-5F9V ($299, June) and the DXG-5G2 ($299, September) with a candy bar vertical form factor along with a  twistable view screen. 3D can be played back on each camcorder's autostereoscopic view screen or on 3D-capbale TV (active or passive, requiring compatible glasses). The camcorders shoot video and still images in 2D or 3D.

DXG is also bringing a children’s dual-lens 3D still camera ($80, June) to market later this year.  The “left and right” images captured by the DXG-018 camera can be printed out on standard 4″x6″ photo paper, appearing side-by-side. The #D effect is seen when the strip of paper is inserted into one of the three included cardboard viewers.

In a related news story, DXG recently announced a joint product development project with a company called ISee3D Inc. The project will combine ISee3D's 3D Single Lens technology and DXG's camcorder know-how, to produce what the two companies are calling “the world's first consumer 3D Single Lens Zoom Camcorder.” Expected launching of the camcorder is scheduled for release this year in time for the Christmas season.

“Having worked with the DXG engineering team since last year on prototypes, we are optimistic that our combined expertise will result in a high quality, affordable, and easy to use camcorder,” said Bruce Seidel, Business Development at ISee3D.

“We are excited that by means of design and manufacturing from DXG, and 3D single lens capture technology from ISee3D, a new 3D digital camcorder era begins,” commented Aaron Chen, VP Sales & Marketing at DXG.
