Sales of consumer electronics online rose 7.6 percent in September, a number slightly under the overall e-commerce number of 7.8, according to a report issued by MasterCard Advisors Friday.

The CE and appliance increase marked the fourth straight month of year-over-year gains in the category.

“Overall, September continued the pattern we have observed of consumers spending selectively and leaning towards non-discretionary rather than discretionary items,” Michael McNamara, Mastercard's vice president of research and analysis for SpendingPulse, said as part of the announcements. “Variables to keep in mind when looking at spending across the country are regional extremes putting a damper on some sectors while helping others.”
