Digital Images Tell the Truth in Hotel Biz

You wouldn’t purchase an outfit before seeing what it looks like and you wouldn’t stay at a hotel without seeing pictures of the property. Those images typically calm our fears and anxiety of visiting an unfamiliar hotel. Consumers trust the photos on the hotel and travel sites to tell them where they’ll be staying is comfortable, safe and worth the money they are paying.

However, sometimes upon arrival, vacationers realize that things don’t look the way they did in the pictures on the websites. The photos were either doctored or not of the actual place the consumers will be staying. And it’s usually too late to do anything about it.

Between the airbrushing, positioning, cropping and editing of images, it’s hard to decipher what these hotels actually look like. That’s why the recently launched Oyster Hotel Reviews has dedicated so many resources – including a dozen full time reporters each outfitted with Nikon D700 cameras — towards providing its readers with a realistic, unaltered view of countless hotels.

Oyster Hotel Reviews now has over 200,000 undoctored photos on their site of hotels and resorts in the Dominican Republic, Aruba, Jamaica, Miami and New York. They plan on adding new markets in the weeks and months ahead.
