Camcorder sales rose 10 percent during the year, as consumers returned to travel and outdoor activities during the spring and summer months.

Moreover, driven by full-frame camera sales, mirrorless camera revenue increased 40 percent. Indeed, this segment continued to account for a larger portion of the detachable-lens camera market; it accounting for 73 percent of revenue, up from 58 percent in 2020. In addition, the average selling prices for a mirrorless camera increased 27 percent in 2021.

Furthermore, while revenue declined 3 percent in 2021, digital point-and-shoot compact camera sales also benefitted from the return to outdoor activities. In addition, sales of this category were spurred by the growth of livestreaming and vlogging among content creators.—Ben Arnold, Executive Director, Industry Analyst, the NPD Group
