Thornwood, NY—Jörg Schmitz was appointed to head up the Consumer Optics business group of Zeiss. He reports to Dr. Matthias Metz, a member of the executive board of Carl Zeiss AG. Schmitz assumes the responsibilities of Dr. Winfried Scherle. After a 33-year career at Zeiss, Scherle is retiring and will continue in an advisory capacity.

Schmitz studied business economics and began his career at Procter & Gamble. Moreover, after holding various international positions in marketing and sales, he joined Kärcher in 2010.
