Los Angeles, CA—DJI, a maker of civilian drones and camera technology, introduced the DJI Osmo Action 4 camera. Marketed as the “ultimate companion for adventure enthusiasts,” the action camera features enhanced image quality, flexibility and improved low-light performance.

DJI Osmo Action 4 Specs
The new action camera employs a 1/1.3-inch image sensor, a wide f/2.8 aperture, as well as a 2.4μm-equivalent pixel size. It shoots 4K/120-frames-per-sec video and provides a 155° ultrawide FoV. As a result, you can capture shots with fine detail, even in low light.
It also features 360° HorizonSteady stabilization modes, including RockSteady 3.0/3.0+ for FPV footage and HorizonBalancing/HorizonSteady for horizontal shots. Moreover, its stabilization system helps ensures stable imagery in sports and non-sporty scenarios.
In addition, the 10-bit D-Log M color mode provides more than one billion colors and a wider dynamic range. This will give you wider flexibility in postproduction. Moreover, a clor temperature sensor achieves true-to-life tones, whether you’re shooting outdoors, indoors or underwater.
What’s more, with the Osmo Action 4’s ultra-long-life battery, you can film for 2.5+ hours. When it’s time to recharge, it needs just 18 minutes to bring the battery up to 80% power. Additionally, DJI built the battery to withstand low temperatures with a freeze-resistant design. Specs say it will give you up to 150 minutes of recording time in temperatures as low as -4°F. Plus, the camera itself will withstand depths of nearly 60 feet without a case.
Filmmaking Features
The camera has a range of intuitive features meant to enhance your filming experience. With its magnetic quick-release design, you can quickly switch between setups. Further, its native vertical shooting capability, enabled by the horizontal-vertical protective frame, lets you film vertical footage without cropping or sacrificing quality.
Plus, its dual water-stain resistant touchscreens eliminate the need to struggle with the action camera when making parameter adjustments during selfies, mode switching, or video playback. Additionally, the camera has customizable modes and a quick-switch button for smooth transitions between shooting modes. Features like SnapShot also help ensure you never miss a memorable moment. And you can also save and access frequently used settings.
There are also expanded recording options: built-in microphones; stereo recording; and external connection support for expanded recording options. The camera sports three mics and wind noise reduction software that permits recording even in windy or fast-moving scenarios. Moreover, using Wi-Fi livestreaming, you can connect with your audience for a seamless broadcasting experience. You can also use an external power supply to keep your action camera charged during longer streams for uninterrupted broadcasting.
Additional Features
The DJI Osmo Action 4 also offers a variety of shooting functions. For instance, its snapshot button provides immediate recording and instant mode switching. And the camera allows you to quickly switch between five custom modes on the fly, both with the quick-switch button and voice prompts. Its voice control function recognizes voice commands with a high recognition rate to control the camera when hands are busy.
Other features include an upgraded InvisiStick that recognizes and digitally eliminates the selfie stick from shots in various scenarios; 2x digital zoom; and DJI mic compatibility via the Type-C port plus external mics via 3.5mm to a Type-C cable.
In addition, DJI’s LightCut app connects wirelessly to the Action 4 via Wi-Fi. As a result, you get quick previews and auto-editing without having to transfer footage from the camera. The app also provides access to a live feed as well as various story templates and accessible in-app editing tools.
Furthermore, the LightCut app recognizes themes within the footage, recommends an ideal shot sequence and edits content automatically with one tap. It also intelligently matches templates with various use scenarios. They comprise biking, diving, surfing, skiing/snowboarding, camping, vlogging, as well as travel.
