Shen Yang, China—Zhong Yi Optics (ZY Optics) released the Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm T1 Cine lens to complete its Micro Four Thirds cinema lens lineup. There are now four focal lengths to complete the set, from wide angle to telephoto: 17mm, 25mm, 35mm and 50mm.

Moreover, filmmakers now have an affordable set of lenses with the same characteristics for use during video production. The four-lens bundle is available with a proprietary hard case included.

With the new 50mm T1 added to the current MFT Cine line, the lineup offers a field of view ranging from 25º to 65º. Consequently, the set offers great flexibility in different shooting environment for filmmakers. In addition, similar lens characteristics allow great similarity in the bokeh and color rendering, even in different focal lengths.

The lens’s ultrafast T1 aperture and close minimum focusing distance of 23.6 inches enable it to produce buttery smooth and refined bokeh rendering. Moreover, a 9-blade circular aperture mechanism contributes to a round bokeh when the lens is used wide-open.

The lens is also an option for storytelling, narrative, wedding and interview shooting. “Also, the results of shooting at night with no other artificial lighting or a low-light environment with the Speedmaster 50mm T1 cine lens are promising,” the company announced.

Furthermore, the Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm T1 Cine lens retains the color contrast and sharpness of the image with its aperture wide opened, or against the light source.

The lens features 9 elements in 6 groups, including one extra-low dispersion element, one ultrahigh-refraction element and five high-refraction and low dispersion elements.

The Zhongyi T/1.0 series lenses also suppress focus breathing to a minimum, allowing focus pull without compositions changed. In addition, a unified front diameter and gear position of the lenses make working with a focus motor and matte box easier. Operators are free from frequent readjustment of the settings.

What’s more, an internal focus design means the physical size of the lens stays unchanged throughout the entire focus throw. The lens gear and long focus throw with precise scale markings also permit accurate control of focus point, even with an extremely shallow depth of field at T1.0.

Aligned with all other Mitakon lenses, the new lens features a durable metallic exterior. It also has a smooth aperture control ring, as well as engraved markings on its housing.

The Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm T1 Cine lens for MFT cameras has a suggested retail price of $399. The retail price of the bundle with all four lenses and a protective case is $1,339.
