Is it the appeal of grainy, overexposed photos? Or perhaps just a breather from the high-tech smartphone? Whatever the reason, there’s a growing popularity in these low-tech, early digital P&S.

Fujifilm FinePix J10

Debuting in January 2008, the J series point-and-shoot cameras were designed as easy-to-use models that fit into a pocket or handbag for instant accessibility. With a body just less than an inch thick, the FinePix J10 incorporates an 8.2-megapixel CCD sensor and a 2.5-inch LCD. Its Fujinon 3x optical zoom lens offers a 37–185mm-equivalent focal range.

The FinePix J10 launched in matt black or brushed silver versions. However, there’s also a special edition FinePix J12, which has the same specifications as the FinePix J10, but it came in blue or pink bodies. Both models use Fujifilm’s picture stabilization mode to reduce blurry images caused by camera shake or subject movement—especially in low-light settings.

Moreover, automatically choosing the correct light sensitivity and best-matching shutter speed, the FinePix J10 helps to freeze the action and produce high-quality digital pictures without the blur and noise often associated with low-light photographs. The camera’s 14 preprogrammed scene modes meet a wide range of shooting conditions.

In addition, there’s movie mode, which captures QVGA quality (38– 113mm) movie clips at 30 frames per second with sound. The camera also has an xD/SD/SD-HC compatible memory card slot. SRP at launch: $150.
