Parsippany, NJ—Hasselblad unveiled the 2023 Hasselblad Heroines, selected via a worldwide public nomination. Hasselblad Heroines is an annual event organized by the Swedish camera maker. It aims to inspire and empower female photographers while highlighting the diversity and talent within the industry.
As the event enters its fifth year, it launched with a public nomination open worldwide. Subsequently, it uncovered five exceptional female photographers. What’s more, each one has her own unique view and style.
“The five Heroines have each demonstrated unparalleled creativity, innovation and a distinctive visual narrative,” Hasselblad announced.
2023 Hasselblad Heroines
Following are the Hasselblad Heroines for the recognition’s fifth edition and what Hasselblad had to say about them.
Helga Stentzel
A master of visual storytelling from the UK, Stentzel infuses her vibrant imagination into whimsical still-life compositions. Her work transforms ordinary moments into extraordinary tales.
Svetlana Jovanovic
Netherland-based photographer Jovanovic explores the intersection of fashion and fine art photography. Her captivating images blend emotions and redefine beauty, establishing her as a significant influence in the fashion industry.
Chalana Smissaert
Also from the Netherlands, Smissaert focuses on landscape photography. Moreover, she transports viewers to enchanting, fairytale-like scenes that evoke wonder and ethereal beauty.
Li Guo
Deeply influenced by the cultures of two ancient capitals, Chinese-born Guo bridges Eastern and Western cultures through captivating fashion and beauty portraits. Furthermore, her work integrates tradition and modernity.
Ceridwen Hughes
From the UK, Hughes is a visual storyteller who looks to portray patients as more than their conditions. She encourages people to have a deeper understanding of the individual through the transformative power of photography.
Monthly Spotlights
Starting in August, Hasselblad will celebrate each Heroine in a monthly spotlight series across the various Hasselblad channels. The spotlights will offer engaging conversations to inspire and empower photographers. In addition, they will showcase the Heroines’ diverse journeys and the sources of inspiration that have shaped their successful careers.
Furthermore, the Heroines will embark on a visual project in collaboration with Hasselblad. The project will enable them to further amplify their artistic voices. They will use Hasselblad’s 100MP medium-format sensor to push their boundaries of creativity and deliver captivating imagery.
