Union, NJ—The Hasselblad Masters 2021 competition for professional photographers is now open for submissions. Since its inception in 2001, Hasselblad Masters has brought many incredible talents to light. The competition also gives aspiring newcomers the opportunity to become recognized in the photographic world.
Celebrating the profession of photography, Hasselblad Masters is open to all professional photographers who have actively worked in the field for more than three years. They may use any digital camera for their submissions, regardless of brand or format, as long as it captures at least 16 megapixels. In addition, eligible entries include photographs shot on drone and film cameras. However, images made with smartphone and tablet cameras are not eligible.
Hasselblad Masters 2021
This year’s Hasselblad Masters is larger than previous years. It has expanded to 12 categories, including the newest one, Heritage. Moreover, this new category commemorates Hasselblad’s 80-year anniversary. The year 2021 marks 80 years of Hasselblad cameras having captured classic, iconic images. Subsequently, with the Heritage category, photographers will use their creativity to submit images that celebrate Hasselblad’s heritage.
Furthermore, 12 winners will earn the coveted title of Hasselblad Master. They will also each receive a medium-format mirrorless Hasselblad camera. Using their Hasselblad cameras, the 12 winners will take part in a collaborative project with Hasselblad. That project will publish as the commemorative Hasselblad Masters book; it will also post digitally on all Hasselblad channels.
This year’s 12 categories are Art, Aerial, Architecture, Beauty & Fashion, Landscape/Nature, Portrait, Product, Project//21, Street/Urban, Wedding, Wildlife and Heritage. A note about the Project//21 category; it is open to all amateur photographers, students, assistants and young professionals 21 years old and under at the close of the submission period. Hasselblad requires proof of age.
Hasselblad Masters are judged on their photographic ability, creativity, compositional skills, conceptual strength and technique. Entrants will first face the Hasselblad internal jury; it consists of Hasselblad staff as well as experts in the field of photography and cameras. The Hasselblad internal jury will select 10 finalists in each category that showcase a high level of technical skill and creative flair.
Voting is then opened up to the public in addition to the Hasselblad grand jury, which includes several top photographic figures. The public jury vote acts as a seat on the grand jury, which will choose the Hasselblad Masters from the 120 finalists.
Hasselblad Masters 2021 is open for entries between April 14, 2021 and July 31, 2021. The internal jury voting process will take place August 2021, followed by the announcement of the 10 finalists in each of the 12 categories in September 2021.
Furthermore, the public and grand jury voting opens on the same day as the release of the 120 finalists. It will close October 2021, and Hasselblad will announce the 2021 Hasselblad Masters in November 2021.
