Valhalla, NY—Fujifilm North America Corporation introduced the Fujifilm Fujinon XF18mm F1.4 R LM WR lens. It launches in May 2021. With a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 27mm and an f/1.4 maximum aperture, it is the 39th lens in Fujifilm’s interchangeable-lens lineup for X series mirrorless digital cameras.
With a lightweight, portable design, the lens is an option for shooting landscapes and cityscapes as well as portraits and weddings.
“Keeping to our X series philosophy of creating lightweight and compact imaging solutions that produce phenomenal image quality, XF18mm F1.4 is a well-balanced and versatile option for any image maker,” said Victor Ha, senior director of marketing and product management, Electronic Imaging Division, Fujifilm North America Corporation.
“It’s certainly ideal for street photography and landscapes, but we’re also looking forward to seeing how it will be used to make wedding and portrait images. There are a lot of creative possibilities with this lens; I’m confident we’re going to see some great content.”

The XF18mm F1.4 utilizes three aspherical lenses and an extra-low dispersion (ED) lens among its 15-element, 9-group construction. They minimize chromatic and comatic aberration to reproduce images with sharpness. In addition, the focusing group of six lens elements moves in unison to minimize aberration fluctuations and deliver consistent sharpness at any focusing position.
What’s more, with a 27mm-equivalent focal length, it can achieve focus on subjects 4.33 inches away from the front lens element.
The lens also has an internal autofocus system, driven by a linear motor. From its minimum object distance (MOD) of 7.87 inches to infinity, the focusing group of lens elements travels 0.1 inch. According to Fujifilm, this allows the lens to acquire focus in 0.04 sec. However, if the lens travels beyond MOD to acquire focus, focus is achieved in 0.25 sec.
In addition, for control when manually focusing, components in the manual focusing ring assembly were engineered to respond with precision. This is especially true when the focusing ring is rotated slightly.
The XF18mm F1.4 has a 62mm filter thread, measures 2.98 inches in length and weighs less than a pound. The lens barrel is made from metal, and the lens has weather-resistant seals at eight locations along the barrel. Consequently, it operates in temperatures as low as 14°F when used with a weather-resistant X series camera.
The Fujifilm Fujinon XF18mm F1.4 R LM WR will have a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $999. The optional aluminum LX-HF18 lens hood accessory for the lens will also ship in May. It will have an SRP of $69.
