Union, NJ—The reach of Hasselblad cameras now goes farther and deeper with the company’s collaboration with AquaTech. The new Reflex underwater housing is the culmination of  20 years of design and field testing. Weighing 3.52 pounds, it is waterproof down to 33 feet. Moreover, the portable Reflex X1D II 50C allows Hasselblad mediumformat photographers to capture their creative expression beneath the waves.

“This exciting collaboration with AquaTech takes our most portable mediumformat camera even further. It gives our innovative X1D II platform more creative freedom, thanks to Reflex for the X system,” said Bronius Rudnickas, Hasselblad’s Marketing manager.

As the first official underwater solution for Hasselblad’s X system, the Reflex housing permits shooting with the entire XCD lens range. Moreover, its glass-filled polycarbonate construction combines controls made from 316 stainless steel, hardanodized aluminum and also high strength plastics. As a result, it offers protection against salt water and corrosion.

Furthermore, the housing permits simple handling when shooting underwater stills or video. Two electronic shutter buttons on the housing enable capture whether shooting in landscape or portrait orientation. What’s more, navigating other settings and menu parameters is via the camera’s back buttons.

“We’re proud to open new creative opportunities for X1D II users; we are excited to see some of the high-quality work they will achieve with this collaboration between AquaTech and Hasselblad,” added Alan Love, managing director of AquaTech.

The Reflex housing measures 8.26×5.31×7.48 inches. It allows access to the following camera controls: menu; AE lock; AF drive; browse; rectangle; star; and cross/delete.

In addition to the underwater housing, the Reflex kit includes a back plate with controls; a camera plate for mounting the X1D II camera; a cable release for the electronic shutter; instructions; as well as a tool kit.

The Reflex housing for the Hasselblad X1D II 50C has an MSRP of $1,695.
