New York, NY—Polaroid is honoring its shared creative spirit with Basquiat with a new collection. Moreover, Polaroid and Basquiat’s iconic styles merged in the collections’ product development.
“Inspired by the raw and unfiltered artistic style of Basquiat, this collection celebrates the shared commitment to authenticity, spontaneity and embracing imperfections. Basquiat’s belief in beauty through improvisation aligns with the unpredictable nature of Polaroid photography, capturing genuine moments in their unedited form,” Polaroid announced.
Polaroid Basquiat Collection
The collection includes special editions of the Polaroid Now Generation 2 instant camera; Polaroid color i-Type film; as well as a Basquiat edition shoulder strap. The design of the special Polaroid Now camera pays homage to the renowned Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump painting. Moreover, it celebrates Basquiat’s pinnacle of creativity while seeking to encourage a new generation to embrace disruptive art and create their own.
Further, Polaroid is releasing the Basquiat collection as part of its ongoing commitment to recognize the legacy of Polaroid artists. This follows in the footsteps of collaborations with iconic figures like Keith Haring and David Bowie. Polaroid showcased its dedication to preserve artistic heritage as well as encourage a creative revival.
“We aim to pay tribute to Basquiat’s influence, motivating us to embrace authenticity and spontaneity in our creativity. Andy Warhol and Maripol often photographed Basquiat on Polaroid film, capturing his essence, which in turn inspired Polaroid to curate this collection,” commented Oskar Smolokowski, Polaroid’s chairman.
What’s more, the unique collection features 10 different frame designs across a pack of eight films. It showcases Basquiat’s distinctive artwork alongside a Polaroid Now camera sporting vibrant colors.
