Santa Rosa, CA—Think Tank Photo released the next generation of MindShift Rotation backpacks. Fully funded in less than four hours, the Rotation backpack series was successful on Kickstarter. As a result, Think Tank is now releasing the adventure pack series to photographers around the world in three sizes: 22, 34 and 50+ liters of capacity.
Rotation180 technology is a patented solution that enables photographers to quickly access their camera, while on the move or in precarious situations, without taking off the backpack. The backpacks incorporate a rotating belt pack that houses essential camera gear, including a DSLR or mirrorless body, several lenses and various accessories.
For this generation, Think Tank designers enhanced the original Rotation180 by integrating a magnetic closure on the belt pack lid. Consequently, photographers can access cameras from stowed to a shooting position in less than three seconds.
In addition, to address the need to carry heavy gear comfortably, MindShift Rotation backpacks combine the comfort of a technical backpack with immediate access to gear.
“Rotation technology helps you keep up your creative momentum,” said Doug Murdoch, “No need to stop, take off the backpack and set it down in the dirt, snow or mud to access your camera just to get the shot,” he explains. “Simply rotate the integrated belt pack to the front of your body and your camera is at your fingertips. Snap the shot, slide the belt pack back in, and you’re on your way!”
Built for the Outdoors
To stand up to the rigors of outdoor activity, all exterior fabric has a durable water-repellant coating. In addition, the underside of the fabric has a polyurethane coating.
The packs also use YKK AquaGuard and RC Fuse zippers; 100D high-tenacity triple ripstop material; 100D high-tenacity Ace Twill; 1680D nylon ballistic bottom panel; triangle perforated high-density cross-linked angular foam; 580G honeycomb air-mesh, 350G air-mesh, nylon webbing; and three-ply bonded nylon thread.
Shared Features of MindShift Rotation Backpacks
All three backpacks have a rotating camera belt pack with torso height adjustment to fit a range of body sizes. Furthermore, a 10-point adjustable harness fine tunes how photographers carry the load. In addition, a zoned harness system maximizes airflow and breathability.
For outdoor adventure photographers, the packs can also carry a tripod, hydration, ice/mountain axe, trekking poles and extra camera gear using a MindShift Stash Master photo cube (sold separately).
They have a top pocket for quick access to essential items as well as a large side pocket that fits most 1.5L water bottles. What’s more, internal load compression keeps gear tight and close to the body. Daisy chain attachment points also expand the load. To enhance protection, a rain cover for downpour conditions is sold separately ($29.99).
What’s more, the Rotation 34L and 50L+ have a dedicated padded sleeve that fits a 15-inch laptop or a 3L reservoir in the front pocket. They also include a jacket-sized front stuff pocket.
The Rotation 50+ adds rear panel access to grab extra photo or personal gear. It also features a floating top-pocket to strap a rope or a jacket underneath; weather-resistant zippers; an extendable collar that adds 6 liters of storage, expanding the total volume to 56L; and a waist belt pocket for access to small items.
The Rotation 22L has a 6-liter capacity belt pack that stows one ungripped mirrorless or DSLR camera kit with 2–3 lenses or a 24–70mm f/2.8 lens attached to the camera. The main backpack compartment also offers 16 liters of capacity for personal items. It has a suggested retail price of $249.99.
The Rotation 34L includes an 8.5-liter belt pack. It accommodates a gripped mirrorless or DSLR kit with 3–5 lenses or one ungripped mirrorless or DSLR body with a 70–200mm f/2.8 lens attached. Its main compartment has 25.5 liters of capacity for personal items or a Stash Master Top Load photo insert (sold separately, $54.99). SRP: $299.99.
Finally, the Rotation 50L+ features a 10-liter belt pack that handles a gripped mirrorless or DSLR kit with 3–5 lenses or a 70–200mm f/2.8 lens attached. In addition, its 40-liter capacity main compartment stows personal items and is expandable to 46 liters with the top collar. This makes the Rotation 50+ a 56-liter bag. Moreover, an optional Stash Master Pro photo insert ($74.99) also expands load capacity. SRP: $429.99.
