Melville, NY—The Nikon Nikkor Z DX 18-140mm F3.5-6.3 VR is the latest Nikkor Z lens compatible with APS-C size (Nikon DX-format) mirrorless cameras. The 7.8x high-power zoom lens is compact and portable; it has a total length of 3.6 inches and a weight of 11.2 ounces.

Moreover, its wide focal-length range makes the lens ideal for capturing a variety of subjects, from travel to daily snapshots. “The lens achieves consistently high resolution, regardless of focal length or shooting distance,” Nikon announced. Consequently, the lens is a solution for both still shooting and video recording.

Notably, its short minimum focus distance of 7.9 inches at the maximum wide-angle position also lets users capture dynamic close-up shots, such as shooting flowers or tabletop photography.

In addition, the lens realizes high vibration reduction (VR) performance with an effect equivalent to a 5.0-stop increase in shutter speed. As a result, it enables more stable and sharper photos even during telephoto shooting or in low light where vibration is likely to occur.

The lens covers a focal-length range of 18mm to 140mm (27–210mm equivalent) for capturing stills and videos of a variety of subjects, from landscapes to portraits. It also features a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.33x at the maximum telephoto position for close-up shots; this enables rendering of subjects in large size.

In addition, its optical construction employs ED (extra-low dispersion) glass to correct chromatic aberrations. Plus, an aspherical lens reduces aberrations and coma as well as enables a more compact lens size.

Furthermore, when shooting video, it provides an effective reduction of shifting of focus when zooming in or out and shifting of angle of view when adjusting focus.

What’s more, its smooth click-less control ring is customizable; photographers can use it for precise manual focusing or to adjust aperture, ISO or exposure compensation. In addition, a cross-pattern texture clearly distinguishes the control ring from the zoom ring.

Other features include internal focusing; fast, precise and quiet AF operation as the result of an STM (stepping motor); and a dust- and drip-resistant body.

The Nikon Nikkor Z DX 18–140mm f/3.5–6.3 VR telephoto zoom lens will start shipping in November. It will have a suggested retail price of $599.95.
